New Chair of Social Enterprise Scotland Announced

We are excited to announce that our very own Douglas Westwater has been appointed as the new Chair of Social Enterprise Scotland.

Douglas is very honoured to be taking on this role, and when chatting to him about his new appointment, he had the following comment;

'As we emerge from Covid and Brexit and deal with the challenges of Climate Change and the cost of living, social enterprise is moving front and centre in the realignment of the Scottish Economy towards well-being, resilience and sustainability. Chairing Social Enterprise Scotland at a time like this is a real privilege, and I look forward to working with other key players in Scotland and beyond.'

Social Enterprise Scotland’s role is to champion and promote social enterprises to the public and media. To unite and represent Scotland’s social enterprises as the national membership-led body. Douglas will play a key role in helping further this mission, and it was his significant experience in the sector that made him an ideal candidate for the role.

Douglas has been the CEO of Community Enterprise for 15 years and has worked in the third sector for over 25 years, combining his role as Chief Officer with a portfolio of projects connecting him with grassroots issues. He has helped grow a range of initiatives to support the sector - from Accelerate, which supports non-trading community groups to flourish, to Bold, the successful social enterprise branding and design agency. Douglas also has a particular interest in the impact of digital and has developed a range of digital initiatives. Community Enterprise is a 100% sustainable social enterprise.

Douglas is passionate about supporting and developing the third sector and believes that;

'In Scotland, there is an acknowledged need to encourage the private sector to operate with a broader driver than just profit, working towards an economy that focuses on wellbeing and community building rather than pure financial growth.'

Douglas believes that Social Enterprise Scotland plays a large role in encouraging this change within the private sector and is looking forward to being part of the team at this exciting time of change in the sector.

The whole Community Enterprise team congratulate Douglas on this new appointment.
