When Community Enterprise began work in Dornie, the village's only shop had closed and the Community Council was coordinating efforts to reopen it under community ownership. Community Enterprise was commissioned with Stage 1 funding from the Scottish Land Fund to carry out a feasibility study. This was followed by a business plan for the community group, now incorporated as Dornie & District Community Trust, a not-for profit company limited by guarantee.
The Dornie Stores building has been generously donated to the community by the late owner's family, but requires substantial upgrades to comply with building standards and meet the community's needs. With their business plan, Dornie & District Community Trust have secured funding from the Scottish Land Fund and the UK Government Community Ownership Fund.
"Working with Community Enterprise was so easy. We felt supported all the way through the process. The Community Enterprise Development Officer was always available on the end of the phone/zoom call to go through anything we were struggling with. We would definitely recommend Community Enterprise to anyone going on the same journey as us."
