Winchburgh Community Development Trust
Research to understand local priorities and strengthen evidence for funding applications
“We could never have managed the gold standard pieces of work achieved on our own. We will be forever grateful for the expertise available to us and the humanity and understanding of both practitioners we worked with.”
- Winchburgh CDT
The challenge
Winchburgh Community Development Trust is led by local people who work to identify and deliver improvements that make the community a great place to live. Its aim is to combine the opportunities created by Winchburgh’s new residential development with the strengths and experience of the existing community.
Since the trust developed its original strategic plan, the village’s population has tripled. The trust therefore wanted to survey local people to gain a clearer understanding of their current priorities. Alongside identifying opportunities for future development, the research would provide robust evidence to strengthen funding applications.
How we helped
We worked closely with the trust to understand its priorities and gather the information needed to shape the research. From this, we developed a survey and supported its distribution across the village. We also attended community events to promote the survey and encourage local people to respond.
Once the responses had been collected, we analysed the findings and produced a comprehensive report that clearly set out what local people told us and what this meant for the trust’s future priorities.
The result
Trustees have greater clarity and confidence about the trust’s future direction
Stronger evidence for funding applications and renewed confidence in the funding process
With our support, Winchburgh Community Development Trust now has a clearer understanding of what matters most to local people and which areas of work it should prioritise in the years ahead.
The report is also a valuable asset for future funding applications. It demonstrates the trust’s strong and up-to-date connection with the community, providing clear evidence of meaningful engagement and impact.
