The challenge
A group of parents and grandparents came together in Ullapool, to investigate setting up a community-owned childcare charity, to address the lack of locally available childcare and needed support in getting set up.
How we helped
Through Accelerate, we advised on appropriate legal structures, how to get set up, governance and sustainability.
In addition, we provided support with business planning and facilitated access to support from relevant professional organisations including Early Years Scotland and the Care Inspectorate.
The result
Successful SCIO application
The group had the plans, tools and confidence to begin operating
Following our support, Ullapool Otters formerly registered as a SCIO in June 2023.
It has been actively building relationships with other charities in the area and were ready to register with the Care Inspectorate.
