SWOT analysis and strategy review for a collaboration of local businesses hoping to support economic growth and employment opportunities in an island community
The challenge
Sanday Business Forum (SBF) was formed during the pandemic lockdown period in 2020 when an already “fragile” island economy was struggling. The forum sought to increase trade amongst local businesses and contribute to increasing community cohesion.
They started with a voucher system which could be used at any business on the island. Then produced a map showcasing activities and businesses on the island.
How we helped
Accelerate helped the group to produce a SWOT analysis and review their strategy. This helped the forum to gain confidence, take its role more seriously and explore new initiatives to benefit the wider community.

Increased confidence and renewed inspiration for local business forum
SBF are now working to attract more visitors which will bring employment opportunities for local people. It is hoped that this increase in employment will stop depopulation on the island and enhance local resilience.
They are also hoping to grow community involvement in other projects that will support economic growth.
