Lanark Men's Shed

There are over 200 Men’s Sheds across Scotland. Lanark Men’s Shed (LMS) is a charity based in South Lanarkshire. They provide a stress-free learning environment where members can share life skills through a variety of activities such as woodworking, engraving and 3D printing.

They reached out to Accelerate for support writing their business plan, conducting an online survey of existing members and building a new web site. 

The business plan needed to cover three main priorities:  setting up a website and donations platform, conducting a fundraising campaign with local businesses and providing health and safety training for new members.

Accelerate helped the group to write their business plan with the aim of consolidating their current position as well as preparing for their next phase of growth.

While the group's Facebook page was already generating a lot of interest and commissioned work, the group was able to see how their website would let them reach a wider audience.

Their engagement with the Accelerate programme has led to a more professional approach both internally and externally which has been important when dealing with potential funders and in promoting products.

Findings from the member survey were very positive, indicating a high level of satisfaction as well as a desire to use the skills and knowledge available within the membership to contribute to Lanark Men's Shed's long term sustainability.

During 2024, Lanark Men's Shed generated almost 50% of its income through sales of their products.
