Dalmeny Kirk
5-year action plan to build on existing activities, extend services to the local community and generate increased income
“Accelerate’s support has been excellent. The action plan is just what we were looking for and captures well the current situation and what we have achieved but also
there are lots of great ideas and suggestions towards the end of how we can capitalise on our spare capacity and market ourselves more.”
- Dalmeny Kirk
The challenge
Dalmeny Kirk is a 12th century Norman Church with an adjacent hall. They support the needs of the congregation for worship as well as being available for use by the wider community.
The kirk wanted to explore additional income generation streams to support its work and also make its amenities more available to the local community.
How we helped
Accelerate worked with the Kirk’s office bearers to create a 5-year action plan which sought to build on existing activities, extend services to the local community and generate increased income.
The first phase of support focused on the development of the cafe. The second phase focused on the use of the kirk and the hall in more commercial terms, while retaining the primary purpose of the assets as supporting the work of the church.
The result
Action plan completed
Improved use of a local asset for the community
The action plan, combined with the unique strengths and entrepreneurial approach of the group means that there is now an excellent framework for further development to make best use of the kirk, both to support the Parish and for the benefit of the local community.
Some potential opportunities identified include promoting the venue for weddings and conferences, using it as a film location and making the venue available to let.
