Creative Glasgow
Brand identity, bespoke typography and digital design for Creative Glasgow
The challenge
Creative Glasgow is a city-wide initiative dedicated to empowering creative practitioners across Greater Glasgow, regardless of discipline, background or career stage. With a strong focus on inclusion, sustainability and social justice, it supports a thriving, equitable creative and cultural sector.
As a central hub for the city’s creative community, Creative Glasgow fosters meaningful connections, encouraging collaboration, knowledge exchange, advocacy and shared opportunities. The challenge was to create a visual identity that embodied this spirit of connection while remaining rooted in Glasgow’s distinct cultural landscape.
How we helped
Our Bold Studio team created bespoke letterforms that reflect Glasgow’s creative past, present and future. We drew inspiration from a diverse range of references across the city, including the Glasgow Subway and its sense of connection, shipbuilding and industrial heritage, iconic signage such as the Barrowlands, graffiti and street art, alongside subtle references to Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
We crafted rounded, interconnected letterforms that balance geometric precision with fluidity, reflecting both Glasgow’s industrial past and its ongoing creative energy. Rather than relying on overused visual symbols of the city, we developed an original contemporary system with its own confidence and character.
We extended the typography into a flexible brand system for motion, social content and digital use. Interlocking bubbles act as visual metaphors for collaboration, diversity and community, while a dynamic central motif can house imagery and moving type. We also designed a bespoke website focused on showcasing artists and promoting networking events, carrying the idea of connection through the full digital experience.
The result
Distinct and accessible brand identity and bespoke website created
Stronger recognition of Creative Glasgow and its role within the city
Creative Glasgow now has a distinctive and accessible identity designed around the idea of connection.
The bespoke typography, flexible visual system and website give the initiative a cohesive platform for showcasing practitioners, promoting events and supporting networking across Glasgow’s creative community. The result is a contemporary brand rooted in the city’s character without relying on familiar visual clichés.
