Community-led Asset Development Research
Types of work: Research and insights
Research which aimed to explore innovative solutions to the development of a local asset.
The challenge
Community asset transfer has grown significantly in recent years through legislation, funding and a support infrastructure. Demand is increasing but the challenge many of these projects face, is how to finance the post-acquisition costs of developing these assets in an increasingly challenging funding environment.
How we helped
In partnership with the William Grant Foundation, we researched and scoped out new models of innovative approaches to achieve these goals.
Over a 6-month period, we undertook a range of stakeholder interviews and case studies across Scotland and the UK. We discussed the issue with over 50 key national stakeholders at a summit event.
The result
Robust research produced on innovative solutions to the development of a local asset
Findings shared with key partners in the statutory and third sector
We produced a robust research paper which responds to recent changes in in community asset development and the challenges community organisations face in establishing sustainable and effective assets.
This was a well-received piece of work, which was acknowledged as showing a direction of travel for a sector facing challenges.
