Coalburn Community Action Plan

Types of work: Local Place Plans and Community Action Plans

Community Action Plan for Coalburn

"Community Enterprise got to know the community
which showed in the end results of the report.
Very friendly and easy to work with."

- Community of Coalburn

The challenge

Coalburn is a small village in North Lanarkshire which was looking to do big things. With loads of community assets and significant investment coming in from wind farms, locals wanted a clear idea of where to put their efforts.

How we helped

We worked in the community holding open events, doing art with the Primary children, and holding a Community Walk About to get local people talking about what they wanted to see happen.

We then helped develop a long-term Community Action Plan (2023-28) that was built on the back of a newly-formed collaboration between local community groups.

The result

10-year plan identifying clear priorities for Coalburn investment

Community united and inspired to improve their local area

 Partnerships emerging between community groups

After the Community Action Plan was finalised, the community were then able to work together with the local authority to address five specific themes for action that the plan highlighted: Local Jobs and Enterprise, Connection and Cohesion, Village Improvements, Local Amenities and Facilities, and Putting Coalburn on the Map.
