The challenge
Clackmannan Development Trust (CDT) is a membership-led charity, established in 2014, with a focus on making Clackmannan and the surrounding communities a better place to live, work and visit. Working closely with community partners, they help deliver a range of services and activities that have been developed in
response to the needs of the community.
While CDT offer a wide variety of activities to the local community, they were operating at full capacity and had outgrown the community space that was available to them.
The Community Asset Transfer process had
been previously explored but struggled to gain traction; however, a new collaboration between Clackmannan Development Trust and Clackmannan Town Hall Trust provided an opportunity for the two organisations to combine efforts to take ownership of Clackmannan Town Hall.
To assist with the asset transfer process, CDT sought support to create and formulate a robust Business Plan and help to navigate the process.
How we helped
Through Accelerate, we created a business plan for Clackmannan Development Trust that aligned with the asset transfer timeline.
A key component of this work included supporting CDT to develop financial projections and appropriate financial modelling, which also involved scoping and identifying potential ways to generate income.

A clear route identified to build and grow the organisation's capacity, so they can extend their services and increase community benefit
The support from Accelerate has helped the CDT realise their ambition to provide the community with an enhanced space and place that offers a multi-purpose venue and services for all the surrounding communities.
The business plan was designed as an interactive roadmap to help the CDT build and grow its capacity.
Developing the Town Hall will enable CDT to:
- Extend their reach and engage more of their community
- Reduce loneliness and isolation
- Provide a safe space for children and families, and those most vulnerable in the community
- Improve community health and wellbeing
- Attract more visitors to Clackmannan, and help bring together partners and the community to encourage behavioural change.
